over 10 years ago – Mon, Jun 16, 2014 at 08:07:46 AM

"Charge me your day rate

i'll turn you out in kind

when the moon is round and full

gonna teach you tricks that'll blow your mongrel mind"

- Wolf Like Me, TV On The Radio

Loz Cazados (The Hunted) Are Loose!

We did it! We hit our $16,000 mark and that means Mark Diaz Truman will release his small game of Los Cazados (The Hunted) as a digital pdf laid-out by none other than John Harper himself! Thank you to everyone for their support and helping us reach this goal!

And now, our latest stretch goal is ready for revealing!

Stretch Goal #9 Miami ($20,000): Eloy LaSanta’s Miami City Guide!

We fly back to America for another City Guide, set in sunny Miami! Eloy will take you on a tour through the city that most never see, the true face of Miami’s supernatural world. This City Guide, like the others, will give you and your group all the tools you need to jump-start a campaign or one-shot of Urban Shadows set in Miami: including faction info, custom moves and prominent players in the city.

Origins Rocked!

Origins 2014 was a complete success with Mark and I running around 6 session of Urban Shadows at Games on Demand. Each session was a ton of fun and we got some spectacular reviews and useful insights. Thank you to everyone who came out to Origins and attended the GoD event. We loved running for you!

New Stretch Goal Announced!
over 10 years ago – Wed, Jun 11, 2014 at 07:36:32 AM

We’re sorry for the delay in announcing our newest stretch goal, Mark and I have been rather busy this week with business trips and commuting to Ohio for ORIGINS!! If you’re going to be at the con this week and you see us, don’t hesitate to introduce yourself and give us a chance to get to know you. We'll both be running Urban Shadows at Games of Demand so look for us there.

Alright, you asked for an international city guide and we are delivering. Or better yet, Andy Kitkowski is! Announcing...

Stretch Goal #8 On My Mind ($18,000): Andy Kitkowski’s Tokyo City Guide!

Andy will be joining our team of exceptional writers to bring you our first international City Guide, focusing strongly on the Kichijōji district, voted yearly as "the place Tokyoites want to live most”. But what secrets does this idyllic neighbourhood hold? Do you even care to find out so long as you're happy?

Los Cazados have nearly become the hunters!

We're now less than $500 away from unlocking Mark Diaz Truman's Los Cazados (The Hunted): a short game about werewolves trying to hide among humanity while protecting it.

Thank you!

Thank you again to everyone for their support and comments. We're keeping a close eye on your suggestions and requests so please keep them coming.

Bullet With Butterfly Wings
over 10 years ago – Mon, Jun 09, 2014 at 12:47:41 PM

“The world is a vampire, sent to drain

Secret destroyers, hold you up to the flames
And what do I get, for my pain?

Betrayed desires, and a piece of the game”

- Bullet With Butterfly WIngs, The Smashing Pumpkins

Stretch Goal #6 (City Guide: Chicago) Unlocked!

The windy city will be blowing into town thanks to all of your amazing support. The famous Ken Hite will be applying his unique flavor of horror and mystery to Urban Shadows, which is sure to leave even the monsters scared.

As we’ve stated before we will be releasing all the City Guides via PDF to backers after we publish the main book (and considering a print run copy if things keep going like this...)

Next Up! Mark Diaz Truman’s Los Cazados (The Hunted) unlocking at ($16,000).

We’re now less than $1,900 from unleashing the wolves on the world. Mark’s short game will pit werewolves against the agents of the Old One who seek to harvest their powers and free their imprisoned master. Can you use the wolf within to fight back while still keeping your 8:00 dinner date with Mike and Patrice? Let’s hope so!

More Stretch Goals Are En Route!

You didn't think that was all we had, did you? We’ll be announcing our next two stretch goals within the next 24 hours. Stay tuned...we've got a couple good ones lined up for ya!

Boulevard of Broken Dreams
over 10 years ago – Sun, Jun 08, 2014 at 10:16:42 AM

“I walk this empty street

On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams

Where the city sleeps

And I'm the only one and I walk alone.”

- Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Green Day

Stretch Goal #5 (City Guide: Los Angeles) Unlocked!

And like the frontier spirit itself, y’all march on. Our $12,000 (400%!!!) goal has been unlocked! Strix will be writing the City Guide for Los Angeles! We’ll be releasing all the City Guides via PDF to backers after we publish the main book (and maybe we’ll try to print them up too if things keep going this way…)

Here’s a sample of the kind of local Threats that Strix is already planning for her City Guide...

Los Angeles: A Preview (El Cucuy)

Duérmete niño, duérmete ya

Que viene el Cucuy y te comerá.

Go to sleep child, go to sleep now,

Or the Cucuy will come and eat you.

El Cucuy is among the worst of the things that lurk in the dark underworlds of reality. He is the shadow monster that steals children from their beds at night, for what purpose is not entirely known. It is thought that he eats them, or drags them to hell, or trades them over to the blackest fae markets as slaves. Whatever the case, no child that he has taken has ever come back.

Many parents tell their children that they must behave, for if they sin the Cucuy can get them. All he needs is a fingernail's hold on their souls, some tiny stain, and that is enough for him to be able to rip them away from the world. He is a monster born to hunt children, and in this he is very skilled.

He comes at night. He hulks on the street corner across from your house under the glaring sodium lights of the street lamps—a shadow full of malice—and he watches your window. Waiting. Maybe he eventually fades into the darkness. Maybe not. You can stare back if you're brave enough, but you will never see his eyes. Not until its too late. If you are caught out in the street at night he trails your steps. He could slip from shadow to shadow, but he wants you to know that you are hunted. He may hunger for children, but he is not above dismembering anyone who gets in his way.

In truth, el Cucuy is a monster that has many names, like all old evils do. He is rumored to be a ghost, a fae, even a demon, but what what isn't rumor is that he's come up from Mexico, and he's in East L.A. Children started disappearing in Lincoln Heights some time ago. It's a rough Hispanic neighborhood with too much gang violence for police to be sticking their noses in regularly, but word has slowly trickled out. Something isn't right.

Children are disappearing in alarming numbers, and what's finally getting the attention of authorities is that the disappearances have spread outside the bounds of Lincoln Heights, into Chinatown and Cypress Park. These abductions are getting too close to the heart of the city. What's even more worrisome though is that for el Cucuy, this is sloppy work. He may be a primordial creature with no allegiances, but he hasn't lasted these long years by being careless. Something is pushing him...

More Stretch Goals To Unlock!

We're now less than $1200 away from unlocking the Chicago City Guide by Kenneth Hite ($14,000) and how could we forget Mark Diaz Truman's short game Los Cazados (The Hunted) unlocking at ($16,000).

Our 8th stretch goal ($18,000) will be announced soon and just just give you a hint, it will be taking you abroad...

Thank you to all!

Dead Souls
over 10 years ago – Fri, Jun 06, 2014 at 02:45:54 PM

“Where figures from the past stand tall

And mocking voices ring of blood.

Imperialistic house of prayer

Conquistadors who took their share”

- Dead Souls, Nine Inch Nails

Stretch Goal #4 (New Archetype: The Revenant) Unlocked!

The Revenant has crawled its way out of the grave and into your hands, and the city will never be the same! Since we’ve made it to $10,000, we’ll be adding The Revenant, the fourth member of Night, to the book as a regular Archetype, including play advice for The Revenant and advice for MCs when they’ve got a Revenant in their group. The dead will walk the streets of the city!

The Revenant: A Preview

The Revenant is a an unstoppable force returned from the grave to enact revenge on those who have wronged them. The Revenant isn’t someone who died quietly in their sleep, content to drift off into permanent slumber; when the Revenant paid the boatman, the coins were coated in blood. Joined on their return to the land of the living by their Guide, an animalistic avatar of death, The Revenant walks a path of revenge, determined to show those who wronged them the costs of their sins. But is revenge the same as justice? How many will have to die before the scales balance? Will the distant glimmer of their humanity be heard in time to pull the Revenant back from the edge?

The Revenant has a unique relationship to Corruption, nearly all their powers require them to go deeper into debt to their darker self. This means The Revenant isn’t long for this world, but their bloody thirst for revenge allows them to hold out against the darkness longer than most. The Revenant is the perfect Archetype for a short run of Urban Shadows or for a favorite character whose life is cut tragically short during play.

But The Revenant is not the only thing that patrols the streets of the City looking for revenge...

Stretch Goal #7 ($16,000) - Mark Diaz Truman’s Los Cazados

Our seventh stretch goal is a short game (like Ghost Lines by the illustrious John Harper) about werewolves called Los Cazados (The Hunted) written by Mark Diaz Truman. In Los Cazados, you’ll play werewolves cursed with lycanthropy by an ancient enemy, doomed to forever fight the rage in their own hearts:

“Long ago, we stopped the Old One from coming into this world. We took our simple magic and closed the doors it tried to open. When we did, the Old One cursed us to live as lobos. As animals. But we were ready for such vengeance, and we guarded against it, locking the wolf in a cage in our hearts. Controlling it. Protecting it. Using it.

Now we use el lobo as a weapon against the Old One, but we are hunted by its minions. We must try to stay hidden, to stay safe in our normal lives. We must pretend to be sheep, so that we can be wolves. We are Los Cazados, but that does not mean that we are powerless.”

In addition to Mark’s work on the game, we’ve also arranged for John Harper himself to lay out the game! Stay tuned for more sneak peeks of Los Cazados in the coming weeks!
